One Chart that Explains Politics

This chart attemps to integrate insights from Ken Wilber's AQAL Theory and David Nolan's Nolan chart. It is a work-in-progress with comments appreciated.

But how does it relate to spirituality and the Purity/Sanctity values identified by Haidt? Just take the top scale, Interiors/Exteriors, and turn it horizontally, heavanward, as in my One Chart that Explains Religion.

Teri: First, I love "Elevate the Debate!" Catchy, pithy. And you know how I love visuals like this. Nicely done - the whole blog. Todd

Your chart is correct that conservatives create change through business, but I don't understand why you say liberals pursue it through "everything else."

True conservatives believe that life can be better for everyone. So, they're not happy with suffering or inefficiency. They move the world forward by creating products or ideas that make for less work, greater ease, better security, better health, more enjoyment, etc for others. This creative process takes blood, sweat, tears, and capital. They assume the risk hoping that their hard work is going to pay off when others agree that their product or service creates a beneficial change. That agreement is signaled through purchase with the result that the originator of the idea recoups his/her investment and then (hopefully) makes a profit.

Patents, low taxes, and minimal government interference are important to conservatives because they are seen as ways to protect the right to profit from improving life for others. Conservatives believe that when you create structures that motivate people to assume risk by allowing them to profit from their hard work, they will create the things society needs to change for the better. Conservatives also believe that removing the right to profit de-motivates people with the end result that others are NOT given what they need to make their lives better.

So how do liberals create change?

Wondering where Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Socialists, etc... fall on the AQAL map(cube)?
